Penn State has made multiple improvements to the entrances outside of Beaver Stadium in recent years, and now a new plan was announced Thursday with the creation of what’s being called “The Legacy Plaza.” The update will take place outside of the south endzone tunnel entrance and is scheduled to be completed before the start of the 2023 football season.

According to Penn State’s press release, the plaza will “honor the rich history of Penn State Football” with plaques honoring every season. Those plaques will include each team’s schedule and results, along with that year’s team captains.

“Penn State Football has rich tradition and history, and we are excited to be able to recognize all of those accomplishments with this new Legacy Plaza at Beaver Stadium,” said Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Dr. Patrick Kraft. “We want our Lettermen, Varsity ‘S’ members, Blue Band members, and all of Nittany Nation to be a part of this celebration of Penn State Football.”

Penn State plans to renovate Beaver Stadium

Last month, the university also announced that it intends to renovate the 63-year-old Beaver Stadium at some point in the future.

“After extensive research and consultation, renovation for Beaver Stadium is the direction we want to take as it is far more economical than a new build. In addition, it’s important to note that no part of this project will be funded by tuition, student fees or any of our educational budget,” said Penn State President Neeli Bendapudi.

“I know there is a lot of interest in this project, and we are at the beginning of a multi-year journey, which still must include proposal review and approval by the Board of Trustees. Athletics also will need to put the project out for bid.”

Penn State has yet to announce financial projections or a timeline for the project.
