Penn State picks up commitment No. 11 in Class of 2024 from OL Garrett Sexton
Penn State picked up another four-star commitment Monday morning, as offensive tackle Garrett Sexton ended his recruitment a bit earlier than expected. A native of Hartland, Wisc., Sexton was believed to be leaning towards the Nittany Lions since visiting back on March 30, but with an announced commitment date of May 1, Monday morning’s commitment came as a bit of a surprise. He ultimately chose Penn State over Iowa, Minnesota and Oklahoma. He also earned a late offer from Wisconsin back on Friday.
“Honestly, when I set the [March 30] visit, I had no idea what to expect, but once I went there, I loved it,” Sexton said in a recent interview.
He went on to add, “Talking to everyone there, from the coaches to the players, it was all great. I loved the town there. The views are amazing with the mountains and everything. From the school to the campus, I was blown away. Sitting down and talking to Coach [James] Franklin and Coach [Phil Trautwein] was great, too.”

This time last year, Sexton had just wrapped up his sophomore season at Arrowhead playing quarterback. Weighing about 185 pounds, he wasn’t even on the radar of the nation’s top offensive line coaches. But once basketball season wrapped up, both hard work and nature took over. By the time the 2022 preseason arrived, it was clear that he had to try another position.

“I ended up just really committing myself to the weight room and eating right and I quickly got up to 225 [pounds] in a couple of months. I was just putting on some good weight,” Sexton said. “So, I got switched over to line then and I loved it. I wouldn’t really say it was a hard transition. I picked it up quick and I had a lot of fun, plus I think I have a good frame for it and my O-line coach at my school is great. So, I’m officially a lineman now and I’m happy the way it worked out.”
Recruiting: PSU locks up official visit with top defensive prospect
Sexton is now the third true offensive lineman to join the class. Four-star prospects Cooper Cousins and Donovan Harbour are both expected to be interior linemen when they get to Penn State. The Nittany Lions also hold a commitment from Wyomissing native Caleb Brewer. Brewer could play either offensive or defensive line.
Sexton is currently ranked No. 115 nationally in the On300. He’s the 13th-ranked offensive tackle and No. 2 overall in Wisconsin. That makes him the third-ranked prospect in Penn State’s class now, behind only Quinton Martin and Jon Mitchell.
