Penn State football completes 2025 non-conference schedule by adding FIU, report says
Penn State has completed the 2025 non-confernece portion of its schedule, according to Brett McMurphy of The Action Network. He reports that the Nittany Lions will host Florida International On Sept. 6, 2025 at Beaver Stadium. The Conference USA school joins Nevada (Aug. 30) and Villanova (Sept. 13) on the team’s non-Big Ten slate. Penn State now has its full list of non-conference opponents set through 2027.
Next year’s meeting will mark the second between the two schools. They first met in 2007. The Nittany Lions won 59-0 at Beaver Stadium. Anthony Morelli threw three touchdown passes in that matchup and Austin Scott scored two of the home team’s five rushing touchdowns. FIU is now coached by Mike MacIntyre, who starts his third season with the Panthers in 2024. They finished 4-8 in each of the past two seasons. A win total has not yet been posted for this fall.
“I don’t think the (Penn State) philosophy or the model has changed,” Lions coach James Franklin said when talking about future scheduling as it relates to making the College Football Playoff. “You’ve got to do whatever you possibly can to give yourself a chance to be undefeated at the end of the (regular) season. If you’re not scheduling to be undefeated, you’re scheduling to have the least amount of losses possible to give yourself a chance to be in the playoffs.”
