Former Penn State offensive lineman announces transfer destination
Former Penn State Nittany Lions offensive lineman Anthony Whigan has revealed his transfer destination.
Whigan announced on Twitter Monday afternoon that he’s committed to play for Akron.
There, he’ll play for former Penn State offensive coordinator Joe Moorhead, who became the head coach of the Zips this offseason.
He possesses one remaining season of collegiate eligibility.
Whigan announced his entrance into the transfer portal back on January 31 after three seasons at Penn State.
“These past 3 years have been some of the most memorable years of my life,” Whigan wrote in a statement. “Being able to have made lifelong friendships/connections and earn a degree from such a prestigious school like Penn State, I am forever grateful.
“I would like to thank the coaches, my teammates and the awesome fans here at Penn State. I’m blessed to have the support of you guys as a Nittany Lion. With that being said I have decided to enter my name in the NCAA transfer portal as a graduate transfer with 1 year of eligibility remaining.”
Anthony Whigan’s path to Penn State and his career at PSU
Whigan took the junior college route high-level college football.
Like several other Nittany Lions, he started his career at Lackawanna College. After a stint there, he joined Penn State before the beginning of the 2019 season.
Whigan found playing time difficult to come by at first. During the 2019 and 2020 seasons, he played just 46 combined snaps, according to Pro Football Focus data.

He became more of a factor during the 2021 season. With Sal Wormley injured, Whigan emerged to claim the starting job at left guard out of camp.
Whigan played just 13 snaps in the opener, though, before Eric Wilson replaced him.
The Nittany Lions called upon Whigan sparingly thereafter. He played 11 snaps between weeks one and 12, before a flu bug forced him into the starting lineup against Rutgers.
In total, he completed the season with 102 snaps. PFF gave him a 65.3 pass-blocking grade and a 60.8 mark as a run blocker.
Cole Brevard enters portal
Penn State has lost a defensive lineman to the NCAA transfer portal.
On3 national college football reporter Matt Zenitz said Monday that defensive tackle Cole Brevard has entered his name into the mechanism that allows other colleges to contact a player who wants to explore different opportunities.
The Carmel, Ind., native was a four-star recruit in the Class of 2020 On3 Consensus player rankings. He did not see any game action as a freshman but was once named the scout team defensive player of the week. Last fall, Brevard saw time in the Penn State-Rutgers game. However, he never saw significant action even after the program lost PJ Mustipher to injury before Derrick Tangelo opted out of the Outback Bowl.
