Penn State news, notes, and updates for March 5 include an updated spring top 25 list, headlines of the day, and more.

It’s time to dive into Tuesday’s top tweets and headlines about the Nittany Lions and college athletics.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with an updated top 25 list from CBS Sports national college football Dennis Dodd. In his first too early top 25 for the 2024 season, Dodd ranked Penn State at No. 16. Now, he’s in line with the rest of the media world who have mostly all had head coach James Franklin’s team inside of the top 10. He now has them at No. 9 with spring practice set to start next week.

“The same math still applies in Happy Valley: The Nittany Lions must find a way to get past Michigan and Ohio State,” Dodd writes. “But with the Big Ten adding four West Coast schools and eliminating divisions, Penn State will not meet the Buckeyes and Wolverines each season. That doesn’t mean the schedule is easier. Ohio State and Washington come to State College, Pennsylvania, this season, and there are notable road games at Wisconsin and USC. Quarterback Drew Allar, and the offense in general, must improve.”

Georgia and Ohio State lead the way with Texas, Oregon, and Alabama rounding out the top five. Ole Miss, Notre Dame, and Missoui fill slots 6-8 before the Lions. And, LSU sits at No. 10. Michigan is at No. 11 and is the only other 2024 Penn State opponent who made Dodd’s latest cut.

Quote of the day

“I think there’s gonna be a lot more things that we do on the front end for us that are going to, you know, make the defense communicate, and it’s gotta be more beneficial for us. Like helping guys get open from a schematic standpoint and getting them better, favorable matchups in a sense, and just making the defense beyond on their toes and always making them communicate.

“So I’m really looking forward to getting into spring ball and, you know, going against Coach Allen and their defensive system.”
