Happy Tuesday, Penn State fans. Today also marks the start of August, which means preseason camp begins in just over 24 hours for the Nittany Lions. However, before James Franklin and his staff can switch their focus to their current roster, the coaches and the recruiting staff have a busy day ahead.

We’ll break down the details of that below.

Penn State Tweets of the Day

August 1 is a big day for the Class of 2025. In previous years, FBS coaches couldn’t initiate conversations with rising juniors until Sept. 1.

This year, that’s been bumped up a month to August and will actually move up again next year to June 15. That June 15 date has caused quite a stir among college coaches and staff members, as it’ll coincide with official visit weekends in the years ahead. June is already a massively busy month. Now, the NCAA has made it even busier. Many coaches, including Penn State, will begin contacting players at midnight.

In previous years, this change also meant that staff members were only allowed to text, email or direct message players via social media. Now, the NCAA is allowing coaches to also talk to players over the phone. Phone calls are now unlimited, too.

Below are a few of the different graphics that Penn State’s team created.

In other news, one of Penn State’s top remaining 2024 prospects, cornerback SIone Laulea, released his top schools on Monday evening. In addition to the Nittany Lions, he included Oklahoma, USC, Oregon and Miami.

Lauelea was the lone 2024 scholarship recruit to visit State College this past weekend. While on the East Coast, he also checked out Miami. It’s believed that the Canes and Ducks are PSU’s primary competitors for the junior college prospect.

In case you missed it, BWI’s Sean Fitz caught up with the California native following his visit this past weekend. Subscribers can click the link below to recap everything he had to say.
