Penn State Football Officially Secures Naming Rights to Beaver Stadium field
The Penn State Athletic Department secured the second-largest ever donation to the program on Monday when the Board of Trustees approved a deal to name the field at Beaver Stadium. West Shore Home, a company owned by Penn State alumnus B.J. Werzyn, gained approval for the naming rights for the next 15 years. Reporter Nate Bauer sits down on the Blue White Illustrated YouTube Channel to discuss what that means for the athletic department.
Penn State Athletics released a statement after the approval with athletic director Pat Kraft’s official comments on the decision.

“We are incredibly grateful to B.J., P.J. and West Shore Home for this game-changing gift as their commitment to Penn State Athletics and the institution will have a lasting impact on our student-athletes, fans and community,” said Patrick Kraft, vice president for intercollegiate athletics. “As an alumnus of our great University and a business owner in Central Pennsylvania, B.J. understands the critical role that Beaver Stadium plays in our community, as well as the importance of preserving the great traditions of Penn State while helping us build a strong future. We are thankful for the Werzyn family and West Shore Home for their generosity and dedication to Penn State.”
Explaining the complicated fight on the Penn State Board of Trustees
Of course, the internal fight within the Penn State Board of Trustees continued with this decision. Several members were outspokenly against the decision, proposing that the naming rights should be either postponed or granted to the Paterno family for Joe Paterno’s service to the program.
We discuss the arguments for and against the decision on Monday. Bauer explains the facts versus the sentiments and feelings about the situation, which are undoubtedly valid and complex. Bauer explains the plan that was presented to the Board, how much money Penn State will raise, what that does to the athletic department’s fundraising goals, and more.
