STATE COLLEGE — Penn State continued its march toward the Blue-White game on Wednesday night as the team held its 13th of 15th spring practices here on the outdoor fields between the Lasch Building and Holuba Hall. It was a picture-perfect sunny April evening for the penultimate set of drills at this location before the program moves over to Beaver Stadium on Saturday.

Head coach James Franklin’s team worked mostly on fundamental work during the portion of practice open to reporters. The 12th-year leader of the Lions spent much of his time with the offense during the 20-minute session. He coached up the running backs through a route-running drill. Then, he positioned himself behind a receivers vs. defensive backs blocking drill. On the other practice fields, the offensive line worked in tandems while the defensive linemen focused on footwork.

Between all of that, senior Drew Allar led the quarterbacks through routes on air drills with the tight ends. He said earlier this week that he’s happy with his spring so far. But, more work remains to reach his goals.

“I had a lot of goals that I had for myself, but my biggest was just overall consistency, just with everything that I do,” Allar said. “Just, between my routine before practice, post practice, and just the way I operate throughout practice. And I think I’ve done a good job with that so far. Always trying to continue to build my leadership vocally, and just do everything that I can to put myself in uncomfortable spots to allow me to grow more. And I think I’ve done a good job with that so far.

“It’s something that I was always going to keep grinding at. Because, it doesn’t come naturally to me at times. So just trying to better myself with that sort of thing. There’s been a lot of things that I’ve been proud of through this spring cycle. I’m excited to re-watch all this spring after it’s done, and then learn what I need to get better at going into the summer and into fall camp.”

Check out our first batch of photos from the practice field below. Penn State offensive tackle Nolan Rucci and linebacker Keon Wylie were both going through drills for the first time with reporters on hand this spring. That was one big takeaway from the evening.
