Penn State quarterback Drew Allar was back on the field with his teammates Wednesday morning for All-America Bowl practice.
After roughly 20 players tested positive for COVID-19 following arrival, both teams are short on players. That’s given the coaches even more reason to keep practice tame.
Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning were both considered walk through practices. That’ll change this afternoon, when both squads get together for a joint practice inside the Alamodome.
We’ll have plenty of coverage from what’s expected to be the best practice of the week later today, but for now, Penn State fans can check out Allar during the morning session of day two. The five-star Ohio native is on pace to start for the East team, who also have Georgia quarterback signee Gunner Stockton and Michigan commit Jayden Denegal on the team.

Following Tuesday’s practice, On3 Director of Scouting Charles Power had high praise for the Penn State commit, who is up to No. 12 overall in the On3 rankings. He’s No. 24 nationally in the On3 Consensus.

“We all know about Drew’s passing talent and that was on display again today,” Powers said of the Penn State commit. “He really generates a lot of velocity on the ball. It’s really easy for him to throw the ball down field without much strain. You kind of saw his velocity improve, too, as the day progressed. I thought he had a good finish to the day in the 11-on-11 portion during the morning session.
“He hit a really nice throwing rolling out to his left, throwing across his body. It was a pretty, off-platform throw. Allar had up-and-down moments, too. He certainly wasn’t perfect and missed some passes, but the talent was still pretty apparent, especially when he pushed the ball down field.”
Allar is one of four Penn State signees in San Antonio this week. He’s joined by linebacker Keon Wylie, running back Nick Singleton and defensive end Dani Dennis-Sutton.
