Penn State makes big jump in On3 Team Rankings following Liam Andrews commitment
Penn State’s 2024 recruiting class came into the week already ranking among the nation’s best at No. 10 overall in On3’s Team Rankings. Now, following a massive addition in defensive tackle Liam Andrews, the Nittany Lions have made one of their biggest jumps yet to No. 7 overall. Their score currently is 91.177.
According to the On3 Industry Rankings, which is used to determine our team rankings, Andrews is ranked No. 85 in the nation. That makes him Penn State’s second-ranked player in the class, behind only Belle Vernon, Pa., running back Quinton Martin.
When you look at just On3’s Rankings, Andrews ranks even higher currently at No. 61 in the nation. He’s one of five committed players who rank inside the Top 110 prospects in the country, joining OL Garrett Sexton (No. 44), DE Mylachi Williams (No. 79), TE Luke Reynolds (No. 81) and Martin (No. 109).
Understanding On3’s Team Rankings
For those unfamiliar with On3’s Team Rankings, there are two major differences compared to other sites that you need to know.
1) We use the Industry Rankings, which uses all four major recruiting sites – On3, 247, Rivals and ESPN – to find a commutative score. It’s not based on just On3’s rankings.

2) On3’s Team Recruiting Rankings solve the problem of varying class sizes during the recruiting cycle by totaling the highest-rated commitments for each team based on a rolling average of current total commitments among Power 5 schools. Currently, that average total is 15 players.
Overall, the goal is to accurately project where the Nittany Lions will truly finish on National Signing Day, not where they rank at this moment in time because they simply have more committed players than most other schools.

Where does Penn State rank in the Big Ten?
While a lot has changed with the rankings since the start of the summer, the Big Ten’s top programs have largely held firm. Currently, Penn State remains fourth overall behind Ohio State, Michigan and USC.
The Buckeyes have the top-ranked class still and are No. 2 overall nationally. Ohio State still holds three, five-star commitments and 11 four-star players. They hold an average rating of 92.925.
The Wolverines and USC both remain at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively. Both classes hold similar overall scores to Penn State, with Michigan sitting at 91.410 and USC at 91.225. If Penn State can add four-star defensive tackle T.A. Cunningham Saturday, there’s a good chance they’ll surpass at least USC.

After Penn State, there remains a significant gap to the rest of the Big Ten. Nebraska sits at No. 21 nationally. You’ll then find Wisconsin (No. 23), Purdue (No. 25), Iowa (No. 30) and Minnesota (No. 31) and Rutgers rounding out the Top 10.
