Penn State commit Jameial Lyons began his season in style this past Friday. Facing one of the most consistent programs in Pennsylvania’s 6A division in Wilson, Lyons helped lead Roman Catholic to a major win to open their season, defeating Wilson 46-15.

Lyons started his season with a very strong performance, recording nine tackles, including three tackles for loss and a forced fumble.

“I think that win was huge for us,” said Roman Catholic head coach Rick Prete. “To get the ball rolling with a win like that was big. We think this can be a special year. Wilson is a quality opponent. Every year, they do things the right way. We looked forward to the task of going into their place and facing that adversity to get a big win.”

Prete added that he was very happy with how Lyons performed.

“We ask him to do a lot. I think sometimes, we put a guy like that in the box and just expect him to do so much,” Prete said. “Whether he’s coming off the edge and getting pressure on the quarterback or moving inside and slowing down the run, we see so much with his potential with what he provides up and down the defensive line.

“But I thought he had a great game for us. There was a fourth and one quarterback sneak where they took their 260-pound tight end to take the snap. Jameial was playing in the three-tech for us and I’m not sure what happens there without Jameial. That was a huge play and a huge turning point, and it’s all because Jameial provides that versatility for us.”

Jameial Lyons Scouting Report

“Tremendous edge defender who has the length and density to kick inside and dominate at the next level along the interior. Shows burst and flexibility to beat tackles off the edge. Has solid hand usage and does a good job keeping his chest clean. Need to see more power and violence in his striking ability. Should develop as he adds weight throughout frame and naturally gets stronger if he moves inside. One of the younger defensive line prospects in the 2023 recruiting cycle.” – On3’s Cody Bellaire
