Penn State extends another scholarship offer to rising 2024 quarterback
Over the past few weeks, Penn State offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich has jumped across the country using the evaluation period to take a closer look at some of the nation’s top uncommitted quarterback prospects in the Class of 2024.
Last month, two players emerged, with Yurcich first offering Ohio native Ethan Grunkemeyer on April 20. He followed that up with an offer to Florida native Trever Jackson a few days later, April 25.
Now, Indiana native Tyler Cherry is the third quarterback to pick up an offer from the Nittany Lions.
At 6-foot-5, 210 pounds, Cherry led his high school, Center Grove, to an Indiana 6A state championship this past season. He threw for 2,269 yards in 14 games, racking up 22 touchdowns and just five interceptions. Cherry also completed 65 percent of his passes.

In addition to his on-the-field accolades, Cherry has piled up 21 total scholarship offers since January. Penn State is the seventh Power Five school to extend an offer. Duke, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan State, Pitt and Vanderbilt all previously offered.

Cherry has also grabbed the attention of On3 Scouting Director Charles Power, earning a four-star rating following the most recent update last month. In fact, he’s also a member of the On300, coming in at No. 226 nationally. Cherry is the 13th-ranked quarterback by On3.
It’s unclear when Cherry may get on campus, but we do expect Penn State to be aggressive in the quarterback market over the next six weeks. With hopes of landing St. Frances prospect Michael Van Buren dwindling, Penn State still has plans to take up to two quarterbacks in this year’s class if they feel comfortable with their options.
Currently, Grunkemeyer feels like the most realistic of the three. Not only has he been on campus multiple times before, but the Olentangy prospect is set to be in State College the next two weekends. He’ll visit with Penn State’s coaches on Friday before driving back to Happy Valley next weekend to participate in the regional Elite 11 camp.
