Penn State makes Top 5 for Michigan four-star safety Jacob Oden
Penn State may have just signed its Class of 2023 last week, but as college football fans know, recruiting never stops. Top prospects in the Class of 2024 have been visiting schools for over a year now, one of whom announced his top five Tuesday.
Safety Jacob Oden, a four-star prospect from Haper Woods, Mich., has taken over two dozen visits since June 2021. After seeing 11 different schools, he announced that the Nittany Lions were one of five schools still in the mix. The other four are Michigan, Michigan State, Tennessee and Iowa.
Of those schools, it should be no surprise that Oden has seen both Michigan and Michigan State the most. Penn State has gotten him on campus twice though, the most recent of which was for the White Out game in October.

“It was a great experience. I had a great time and it really was one of the best game experiences I’ve been to ever,” Oden said. “The White Out was one of those games I had on my radar for a long time, so it was good to finally be able to go see it.”
Oden’s other trip to Penn State came in the summer, as he elected to camp with the staff back on June 22. He also toured campus while in town.

“Camp was a great experience. It was really fun,” Oden said. “Even before the camp, they took me on a visit. I got to see a few things in their building and around the place. At camp then, it was great seeing how their coaches are. I thought they really coached me up. It was fun. I liked almost everything about it. It was a great visit.”
Oden has been primarily recruited by Anthony Poindexter and Terry Smith. Head coach James Franklin has also been in contact with him regularly. He said that he speaks with at least one person from Penn State every day.
According to the On3 Consensus, Oden is ranked No. 173 nationally. He’s the 14th-ranked safety and No. 5 in Michigan for the Class of 2024.
