Penn State will host key transfer portal target for official visit this weekend
Penn State is planning to host most of its top transfer portal targets next weekend, Dec. 16-18, but one of those players will make his way to State College this weekend instead, as Blue White Illustrated confirmed that former Kent State wide receiver Dante Cephas will make his way to University Park for an official visit. Penn State will be the first school he sees since entering the transfer portal.
Since announcing that he plans to enter the portal, Cephas has earned no shortage of offers. Pitt and West Virginia were the first two schools to offer, with Notre Dame also making the move shortly after Penn State. He’s now seen his offer sheet climb to 11 offers total, with Colorado, Georgia, Kansas, Maryland, Miami, Oklahoma and Virginia Tech also joining the race.

A Class of 2019 prospect from Penn Hills, Cephas had productive seasons at Kent State the past two years. In 2021, he totaled 1,240 yards receiving and totaled nine touchdowns for the Golden Flashes playing in all 14 games. He missed a few games in 2022 but still racked up 744 yards and three scores.
According to Pro Football Focus, Cephas was one of the nation’s most productive receivers this season, ranking 17th nationally out of more than 180 receivers who totaled 60 targets or more. His overall grade of 81.6 was higher than any receiver at Penn State this season. For reference, Parker Washington led PSU’s receiving corps with an overall grade of 76.4.

Since Cephas redshirted in 2019 and then got a free season due to COVID in 2020, he’ll enter 2023 with two seasons of eligibility remaining.
Penn State has also extended offers to a handful of other wide receivers in the transfer portal, notably Dont’e Thornton, Jimmy Horn and Dorian Singer. Thornton is a Baltimore native and was once committed to the Nittany Lions.
