Penn State football officially welcomed several newcomers to campus this week as the summer semester kicked off in State College. As of Sunday, the team was still awaiting the arrival of 11 original Class of 2025 signees, defensive lineman Daniel Jeninings, who recently re-classified from the Class of 2026 to the Class of 2025, plus two spring transfer portal additions. With classes underway, the program added former Syracuse receiver Trebor Pena and one-time North Carolina linebacker Amare Campbell to its roster in addition to 10 signees who are now enrollees. All of them are now officially on the roster with heights and weights. Jersey assignments will come at a late date.

Penn State lists Pena at 5-foot-10, 185 pounds, which is shorter than the 6-foot, 184-pound listing he was given by the Orange, as BWI has previously reported. Campbell’s new Nittany Lion listing matches his one from the Tar Heels: He stands 6-foot, 230 pounds. Information on the new Class of 2025 arrivals is below.

Pena and Campbell helped head coach James Franklin’s program be seen as winners of the second and final college football transfer portal window before the 2025 season in the mind of some media members, including On3’s Pete Nakos. The former was a second-team All-ACC pick a year ago after 84 passes for 941 yards and nine touchdowns in the Orange’s pass-heavy attack. The latter, then, made 76 tackles in 2024, which was the second most for the Tar Heels last fall. He was also second with 10.5 tackles for loss. Campbell also racked up 6.5 sacks, which was the second most on the team. And, he had five quarterback hurries, two pass breakups, and a forced fumble.

Pena has one year of eligibility left. Campbell has two. Both will aim to make an instant impact at their new school. Penn State wanted to continue retooling its receivers room after adding two transfers and some Class of 2025 signees for spring ball, which is why the addition of Pena is a big one. Campbell, then, became a priority after multi-year Nittany Lions linebacker Ta’Mere Robinson hit the portal in the middle of spring ball. He ultimately ended up at USC.
