Penn State running back Nick Singleton announces decision for 2025 season
Penn State received a major boost ahead of its 2025 season, as running back Nick Singleton announced on Monday that he’ll be back with the Nittany Lions for his senior season. ESPN had him ranked as the fifth-best running back and among the Top 70 overall for the 2025 NFL Draft.
Update: Kaytron Allen has also since announced that he’ll return for the 2025 season
“It has been a true honor to don the blue and white for the last three seasons,” Singleton posted on social media. “When I set foot into Beaver Stadium, I am aware of just how special this place is. Playing in front of college football’s greatest fans is something I have never taken for granted. I have been extremely lucky to play for Coach [James] Franklin, Coach [Ja’Juan] Seider and the rest of this incredible coaching staff. The guys in that running back room, along with the rest of my teammates, are men I will appreciate forever. It has been a privilege to play with those guys, and they mean the world to me. The family environment in the Lasch building is real.
“We have accomplished a lot here, and we took another big step forward this season. But we know we are capable of being even better. After discussing my football future with my family, I have decided to return to Penn State for the 2025 season. We still have goals we want to reach as a team, and I want to be alongside my teammates as we reach those goals. I am scheduled to graduate this fall and earn a degree from Penn State University, which has always been a goal of mine.”

Singleton was highly coveted coming out of Governor Mifflin High School in Reading, Pa., earning over 40 scholarship offers and five-star rating. The National Gatorade Player of the Year then made an immediate impact as a freshman in 2022, starting in just the third game of the season against Auburn. He went on to rush for 1,061 yards on 156 carries and scored a career-high 12 touchdowns that season, earning the Big Ten’s Thomson-Randle El Freshman of the Year honor. His 12 touchdowns are also the most a freshman has ever totaled for the Nittany Lions.
Statistically, Singleton’s 2023 season was down a bit compared to his first year, finishing with 752 yards rushing and eight touchdowns as a sophomore. However, he also had a much bigger impact as a receiver that season, totaling 308 yards on 26 receptions and two touchdowns. He finished with third-team All-Big Ten honors from both the coaches and media.

Buzzworthy: Tom Allen departure from Penn State a family decision
But it was this past season, 2024, that saw Singleton reach a career-high with 1,474 total yards of offense, finishing with 1,099 yards rushing and 375 yards receiving. He had 12 rushing touchdowns and five receiving scores.
Singleton was particularly impactful during Penn State’s run in the College Football Playoffs this season, rushing for 261 yards on 41 carries (6.36 YPC) during the final three games. He also scored five touchdowns for the Nittany Lions, including all three of the team’s scores against Notre Dame in the Orange Bowl.
In addition to Singleton and Kaytron Allen, the Nittany Lions are expected to bring back plenty of depth at the position. Although he suffered a season-ending injury against Kent State back in September, Penn State will bring back Cam Wallace for his redshirt sophomore season next year. They also managed to play freshmen Quinton Martin and Corey Smith in four games each during the regular season, meaning they’ll both still have four years of eligibility beginning in 2025.
The staff also added former Aliquippa running back Tiqwai Hayes recently – he practiced with the team during the postseason – while Philadelphia native Jabree Wallace-Coleman will join the roster this upcoming summer.
