Penn State news, notes, and updates for Jan. 17 include the latest Lions recruiting offers, plus much more.

It’s time to dive into Tuesday’s top tweets and headlines about the Nittany Lions and college athletics.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with the latest recruiting offers. Penn State sent out three new ones to Class of 2024 prospects on Monday. The Lions are now in the mix for Independence, Ky., three-star Aba Selma. He stands 6-foot-4, 295 pounds and projects as a guard at the next level. Antoine Belgrave-Shorter has also earned a chance to play for PSU. The 6-foot, 175-pound Jacksonville, Fla., corner does not yet have a star rating, but claims offers from a few Power 5 programs.

In other news, Penn State enters day two of its hunt for a new wide receivers coach. James Franklin announced Sunday that he was firing Taylor Stubblefield after three seasons in State College. A new hire was not made on Monday. However, it will not be surprising if news about Franklin’s fifth receivers coach in 10 seasons comes quickly, even as soon as Tuesday. A recruiting evaluation window is underway, and the Lions would love to get someone in place fast who can hit the ground running recruiting before getting familiar with his new players in February.

Quote of the day

“All they have to do is put their head down and grind and just grind and not worry about anything. Block out the noise. How good can you get as a player? How much can you master your techniques and what we’re asking you guys to do? See the big picture.

“Start on special teams. Why aren’t you starting on special teams? You’re an athletic guy that runs a 4.5, 4.4. Why aren’t you starting on special teams? All that stuff matters. That’s the fun part. We’ll get to that as soon as we’re done with this bowl and get them back and get grinding on them in the winter sessions.”
