Penn State football’s signature philanthropic event of the year is returning for the first time in full since 2019. Announced Tuesday afternoon, the Nittany Lions are set to host their annual “Lift for Life” event in front of fans on Thursday, June 30 on campus.

According to a press release accompanying the announcement, the 19th annual event will take place at 5 p.m. at the Lasch Practice Fields. Doors are set to open at 4:30 p.m. for the event and fans are encouraged to make donations of $10 for adults and $5 for kids.

All proceeds are being directed to the Penn State Uplifting Athletes chapter, which serves the rare disease community including the event’s original mission, kidney cancer.

Instructions for parking are as follows:

“Fans are asked to park in Jordan East (formerly Lot 44). Fans will be required to pay for parking via the ParkMobile app. Each available parking area has an associated ParkMobile zone number (posted on entrance signage for general areas and at available ADA parking spaces), which is selected within the ParkMobile app to pay for parking for that location. Download the ParkMobile app or visit ParkMobile’s Penn State site to learn more.”

Though evolving in form over the past decade, another 80 football players are expected to participate. They’ll compete with each other in the annual weightlifting and conditioning event.

And, if past events are any indication of what’s to come, this year’s event – although a few weeks earlier than its traditional mid- to late-July timing – will again serve as a precursor and unofficial ramp-up to the start of Penn State’s 2022 season.

“We just got finished testing and wrapping up summer workouts,” defensive tackle PJ Mustipher said in 2019. “It was a good period for all of us. And, we had a great time getting better and competing. So, to be able to come out and transition to still working hard but having fun, it’s a little bit of a break. And, we’re doing it for a great cause.

“To be back in front of the fans gives us a little boost.”

Penn State was unable to hold the event in 2020 due to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Nittany Lions held a Lift for Life that was closed to the public last July.
