Penn State football started winter workouts a month ago. On Friday, the Lions held their last session before heading out on spring break and then officially starting spring practice.

It means the program’s 10 on-field coaches made their final competitors of the day selections. They come a day after head strength coach Chuck Losey praised the program’s players for what they’ve accomplished so far this offseason.

“Good seven weeks,” Losey said Thursday night. “The guys, they’ve done a great job these seven weeks. They’ve started 2023 off the right way. Different team. You know, finding ourselves finding and establishing a lot of different things from last year’s team. But we’re off to a good start these seven weeks.”

On offense, coordinator Mike Yurcich went with quarterback Beau Pribula yet again as his quarterback competitor of the day. Receivers coach Marques Hagans selected Harrison “Tre” Wallace for the third time this offseason. Phil Trautwein went with freshman offensive lineman Jven Williams for the first time this offseason.

Flipping over to the defense, Deion Barnes, who is making picks for the defensive line now that John Scott Jr., is off to the NFL, went with end Zuriah Fisher. At linebacker, coordinator Manny Diaz picked January enrollee Tony Rojas for the third time this offseason. Then, in the secondary, Terry Smith made second-year cornerback Cam Miller a repeat winner. The same goes for KJ Winston, who was the choice of Anthony Poindexter at safety.

Last but not least, special teams coordinator Stacy Collins went with redshirt freshman long snapper Will Patton.
