The Penn State Nittany Lions have one more game in the 2024 regular season! Senior Day is here for the home team as they host Maryland to close out the year in front of a Thanksgiving crowd at Beaver Stadium. Join the Penn State Football Tailgate Show live from outside Beaver Stadium at 12:30 to get ready for the game. Former offensive lineman Landon Tengwall joins the show to discuss the matchup for 90 minutes and the implications of the first 11-1 finish under head coach James Franklin.

You can catch the show on the Blue White Illustrated YouTube Channel, stop by in person outside the Bryce Jordan Center ticket office, or on 99.5FM The Bus and Bigfoot Country Legends on your local radio. The Tailgate Show is produced in conjunction with Seven Mountains Media.

Penn State recovering from physical game in Minnesota

The biggest news this week came out of the one-point win over Minnesota. Penn State head coach James Franklin announced that both right tackle Anthony Donkoh and defensive tackle Alonzo Ford were out with “long-term” injuries.

“Yeah, Anthony is a long-term injury. We felt like Rucci played well,” Franklin said when asked about backup tackle Nolan Rucci replacing Donkoh. “I think our offensive line as well as Rucci, I think you could watch 20 plays and be very impressed and you could watch a couple plays and be frustrated.”

Franklin had a similar reaction when asked about Ford.

“Alonzo Ford is long-term. When I talked about adversity that we faced at Minnesota, there was a lot of reasons for that, right? Alonzo is long-term as well.”

The plan to replace them

Will we get to see Penn State’s plan to replace Ford and Donkoh on Saturday? Rucci is the obvious starter at right tackle, but how does losing one of the starting five linemen affect the overall depth? We’ll discuss the movement along the line and who is next up should something else happen.

It’s also the last game against a team that cannot make the postseason in any capacity. With Maryland’s struggles and low output this year, will we see more depth rotation no matter what? Can Penn State win a blowout and get its starters out of the game? We’ll discuss how much we can actually learn about the team’s chances in the stretch run coming up if they win this weekend.
