The Penn State Nittany Lions Football team takes on Minnesota this weekend in the team’s final road game of the 2024 season. But as the regular season winds to a close, the postseason discourse is heating up. We’ll discuss both on the Penn State Football Tailgate Show! Join the show live at 12:30 from the Field Burger and Tap in State College or on the Blue White Illustrated YouTube Channel. You can also hear the show locally on 99.5FM The Bus.

Former Penn State offensive lineman Landon Tengwall joins the show to discuss the matchups, key players, and situations that will determine the game. We’ll provide you with 90 minutes of discussion and analysis leading into the game!

Penn State faces stiff test in Minnesota defense

While Penn State is a heavy favorite in the game this weekend, Minnesota is not like the two previous teams that the Nittany Lions blew out. The Gophers boast one of the most challenging defenses on the Nittany Lion’s schedule. The system, combined with the talent, makes it a tricky situation to navigate for a Penn State offense that doesn’t consistently put up complete performances.

So, which parts are the most challenging? Which players will make Penn State work for its yardage? We’ll dive into that matchup to discuss how the Lions can show real growth in the season’s final month.

We’ll also discuss how Rutgers was able to defeat Minnesota and which Penn State players will need to come up big.

Defensive domination and Big Ten picture

Of course, the Penn State defense will also play on Saturday. That unit has a decided advantage against the Gophers offense. Can they be so dominant that the Lions coast to an easy victory? We’ll discuss the key matchups that will determine that outcome this afternoon.

Defensive end Abdul Carter has been an absolute menace in the month of November, racking up several mult-sack and tackle-for-loss games. However, Minnesota’s offensive line is much better than the players he’s faced this month. We’ll highlight that, plus other areas that the defense can show growth this afternoon.

However, Penn State’s matchup isn’t the only one that matters today. There are several critical games going on in the Big Ten this afternoon, which we’ll discuss in our weekly segment, Around the Big Ten.

Game predictions and X-Factors

Finally, we’ll give you our score predictions and expectations for the game this afternoon. Can Penn State get one more for the road and have a perfect record away from Beaver Stadium in 2024? We’ll give our X-factor players that can make that happen.
