Penn State guard Jameel Brown becomes latest Lion to enter NCAA Transfer Portal
Penn State basketball has lost another player to the NCAA Transfer Portal. Guard Jameel Brown confirmed on his Twitter page Wednesday that he is now exploring his options after just one season in State College.
The former three-star recruit in the On3 Industry Rankings is the fourth Lion to hit the portal since Micah Shrewsberry left the program to become the head coach at Notre Dame. He joins Dallion Johnson, Caleb Dorsey, and Evan Mahaffey in doing so. All are eligible to return in they desire to. But, each is free to check out other schools, as well.
A Philadelphia native, Brown averaged 4.6 minutes over 14 contests during the 2022-2023 season. He scored 12 points and netted 14 rebounds in a reserve role.
In March, Shrewsberry discussed the role Brown was playing for the Lions away from game days alongside fellow freshman Demetrius Lilley.
“(Jameel and Meech) haven’t gotten much of an opportunity, but it’s nothing that they’re doing,” Shrewsberry said. “There’s a reason that it’s a DNP CD. I gotta make decisions on who’s playing and who’s not. But both of them are fully invested and great teammates. They’re just doing whatever we ask.
“I like it. I like where they are, I like what our staff has done with them and how they keep improving.”
Penn State basketball continues offseason of change
Penn State basketball is not just losing stars Jalen Pickett and Andrew Funk ahead of next season. A bigger changing of the guard is underway, of course.

That list starts with Shrewsberry. He left last week to take the head coaching job at Notre Dame. A national search for the next leader of the Lions is expected to end with VCU’s Mike Rhoades taking the job.
Beyond the change at the top and in the portal, Seth Lundy is leaving eligibility on the table to enter the 2023 NBA Draft.
“To my family, who has been my biggest support system every step of the way, thank you for for all the sacrifices you made for me and for being there for me through all the ups, downs, challenges and lessons,” Lundy wrote on Twitter. “I truly would not be the man I am today without you and I hope to continue making you proud.
“I am forever grateful to all my coaches and coaching staffs past and present who helped guide me, develop me and help me become a better person both on and off the court. Thank you to my teammates who made these past four years unforgettable.
“My time at Penn State has been nothing short of a blessing. I’ve cherished every moment and will always call this place home.”
