Penn State news, notes, and updates for June 5 recap a massive recruiting Sunday for the Nittany Lions as June gets underway.

It’s time to dive into Monday’s top tweets and headlines about the Nittany Lions and college athletics.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with recruiting. Penn State wrapped up its first weekend of official visits with three commitments. Florida three-star offensive lineman Deryc Plazz jumped on board first. A few hours later, Maryland defensive lineman Xavier Gilliam made the Lions his pick.

“Penn State is definitely an amazing university and I really got to experience that over the weekend,” Gilliam told BWI. “They’ve always been very consistent and showing interest in me ever since they offered. They’ve shown me a bunch of love. When I got on campus for my official then, it was crazy. Everyone knew my name, even people I never met before. Stuff like that always makes you feel good.

“But I’ve been up to Penn State three times and my parents have never been there before, so just seeing them connect with Coach [James] Franklin and Coach Deion [Barnes], it was just amazing.”

Then, in the evening, four-star safety DeJuan Lane tweeted his Penn State pledge. It gives head coach James Franklin’s program 17 Class of 2024 commitments. Quote of the day

“Tyler has an unbelievable work ethic and he’s extremely competitive. I’m extremely proud of how he’s handled the situations. He competed his tail off against Chris Stoll last year all through camp and Chris Stoll won the Mannelly Award as the best [long snapper in the country].

“Ty models what it is everyday, that work ethic and consistency is exactly the name of the game. Just who he is as a person on the field is exactly who he is off the field too. He’s he’s a cool kid to be around.”
