Penn State news, notes, and updates for Jan. 4 include the start of the off-season plus signees at all-star games and more.

It’s time to dive into Wednesday’s top tweets and headlines about the Nittany Lions and college athletics.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with a recap of the opening day of the off-season. The 2022 Nittany Lions took their final flight together as the team chartered back from California to State College one day after beating Utah 35-21 in the Rose Bowl.

While schools across the country saw players enter the NCAA transfer portal or declare for the 2023 NFL Draft on one of the first days without a college football game in weeks, Penn State experienced neither on Monday. That said, many decisions must be made by members of James Franklin’s roster by the time the sprint semester begins next week. So, stay tuned for busier news events in the days ahead.

In other news, two Nittany Lions who are enrolling early competed in all-star games this week. Four-star corner Elliot Washington II from Alabama competed in the Under Armour Al-American game on Monday. However, he did not record any counting stats. Five-star offensive lineman Jven Williams, meanwhile, practiced for the first time on day one of drills at the All-American Bowl in San Antonio, Tex.

“This setting is a bit of an adjustment for five-star Penn State offensive line signee Jven Williams, who played in a run-based offense at the high school level,” On3 scouting and rankings director Charles Power writes.

“Williams will need to continue working on his hands and overall technique, but the unique movement skills were on display, particularly when he was asked to pull to the second level.”
