The Penn State Nittany Lions Football team kicked off spring practice on Tuesday in its traditional fashion. Head coach James Franklin met with the media in the Beaver Stadium media room for roughly 40 minutes to discuss the team’s progress through the offseason. Franklin previews spring camp

Of course, several positions matter more this offseason than others. Penn State’s receiver room went through a massive change from the 2024 squads. Franklin spoke about that and what he expects from those positions on Tuesday. He asked specifically about the transfer receivers, Kyron Hudson and Devonte Ross. He said that competition against a Big Ten opponent was a big factor.

“I think Troy, was beating Iowa at the half at Iowa, which we know that’s a tough place to play, and in that game, I think he had two touchdowns on offense and one as a punt return on special teams. So for him to do it against that type of opponent on that stage, gave you a lot of confidence that that could translate to us. So, you know, I think that game carried a lot of weight with us again, specifically because we just have so much respect for what they do on special teams and what they do on defense.”

Franklin also discussed the changes to the Blue-White Game. One of the biggest changes is the way Penn State’s spring game will be presented.

“There’s some things that we will not do. The game will not be televised for some of the reasons we’ve already discussed, and you’ve heard other coaches maybe talk about, and we will have a spring game, probably more similar to what we’ve had in the past,” he said.

Penn State Spring Football Schedule

We’ll get our first look at the spring roster Tuesday evening when the program holds its first spring practice at the Lasch practice facility. Blue White Illustrated will provide live feedback for subscribers on the Lions Den Message Board and written reports afterward.

Penn State opened spring football later than most schools across the country. The team will host the annual Blue-White Game on April 26th at 2 pm. The team has 15 practices this spring to prepare the squad for the summer months leading into training camp this August and the season beyond.
