Penn State Football get a big win over West Virginia

As he typically does to start his weekly press conference, Franklin recapped the team’s previous game. Penn State defeated West Virginia 34-12 despite a two-hour and 19-minute weather delay at halftime. Franklin cited explosive plays as a key to victory and penalties as an area that his team needs to improve after the first week.

According to the official stat book, Penn State compiled seven explosive passing plays for 197 yards during the contest. The running game complemented that effort with 149 yards on eight rushes of ten or more yards. Nittany Lions running back Nick Singleton added two 40-yard runs, including one for a touchdown in the second half, to help break the game open.

The defense smothered West Virginia with sticky man coverage. The Penn State defensive backs ended the game with five pass breakups, led by safety Jaylen Reed with two. The tight coverage forced quarterback Garrett Green into poor attempts and ended the day with a 54% completion percentage and no touchdowns in the loss.
