Franklin’s team faces UMass on Saturday for the 2023 Homecoming game. The team will also wear its “Generations of Greatness” uniforms for the event.
According to Penn State’s press release, “Penn State is wearing its “Generations of Greatness” uniforms for the sixth time in the last seven seasons.”
Penn State is 5-1 when wearing the throwback uniforms, which incorporate elements from bygone eras.
Penn State Head Coach James Franklin’s press conference
Franklin started out his press conference with an opening statement, which is unusual for Wednesdays. He wanted to address the false reports that he was criticizing Michigan for taking more competitive games off of their schedule. He wanted to set the record strait on what he actually said,
“I will say it is it can be frustrating and a little sad sometimes when you have non media members but they have some social media presence and they put something out. That is not accurate. And then some national media, don’t read the transcript or don’t watch the interview and then they put something out there. Anybody that watched the entire interview or anybody read the whole transcript, I was actually complimenting the schools from a scheduling perspective. It’s what we’ve been doing. Even in a question that was asked to me, that’s what was said.”

One of the hottest names on the Penn State roster is tailback Trey Potts. The redshirt senior running back filled in admirably for Kaytron Allen in the second half of the team’s win over Northwestern. Franklin was asked about how the veteran has fit into the offense so far.
We’ve been fortunate with a lot of the guys that we’ve recruited out of the transfer portal, the guys that we knew a ton about already guys like Chop [Robinson] who it came down to us in Maryland and he out of high school he decided he wanted to stay home. So when he became available, we knew him we knew his family. We knew his high school coach so made it easy. And obviously you know with Trey similar deal you know, we knew about Trey and we’re tracking Trey for a long time.
