Penn State Nittany Lions head coach James Franklin spoke with the media shortly after the conclusion of Wednesday night’s practice. The team hosts SMU for the first round of the College Football Playoff on Saturday and will try to extend its season all the way to the end of the year with a win. Penn State discusses progress towards SMU game
Franklin was adamant about focusing on SMU and the team’s preparations for the upcoming opponent. To start, he was asked about freshman quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer‘s place on the depth chart after practice.
“Ethan will be the backup quarterback in the game. Smolik still isn’t cleared medically, so a really good job, and put himself in a position that we have a lot of confidence, and he was getting ton of reps this week,” Franklin said.
He also clarified that redshirt freshman quarterback Jaxon Smolik was cleared to practice but not to play.
