The lights get brighter this week for the Penn State Nittany Lions football team. That’s because the team hosts Iowa for the 2023 White Out Game in primetime on Saturday. Things start off on Tuesday with head coach James Franklin’s weekly press conference, which you can hear in its entirety here. Blue White Illustrated hosts a live re-airing of Franklin’s comments each week, moments after the conclusion of his press conference but you can catch the replay here on the site.

Today, Franklin recaps the win over Illinois and then previews the upcoming clash with Big Ten West foe Iowa. We’ll also recap the press conference later today and discuss Franklin’s major points that set the tone for the week. Penn State gets a win over Illinois but has corrections

Franklin starts his press conference by discussing the game against Illinois, citing the major statistics and factors that led to the victory. He also points to the penalties and mental errors his team made as areas of improvement. Despite how the game felt to fans afterwards, Hunter Nourzad was the offensive players of the game. The defenders who forced turnovers were the defensive players. Once again, Franklin stressed the win and not the style.

“We went on the road and found a way to get a Big Ten win.”

He also praised his defense for their ability to adapt in-game and come out strong in the second half of games. He thinks the team will need that, and the gritty attitude they used to beat Illinois.

“Third quarter shutout. Not only in that game but we have not given up a point in the third quarter this season.”

“This is the Big Ten, we play good defense here. You guys know Iowa, were probably going to have to grind it out again this week. For me I’m not overly concerned with that. We need to find ways to win,” Franklin said.
