Penn State stops run with keys with game plan

Penn State head coach James Franklin opened his press conference after the game by discussing the complete win by his football team.

“We played a complete game, offense, defense, and special teams. Complimentary football. [We] Did some special things tonight.”

After his opening statement, Franklin was asked about Penn State running backs Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen, who led the team’s win with over 200 combined yards and a touchdown.

“Everybody wants to talk about the running backs, but one of the things that we always talk about is that the game of football starts up front. I thought our D-Line was disruptive today. I thought our O-line was able to control the line of scrimmage,” Franklin said.

That’s Kaytron. Kaytron breaks tackles [and] runs people over. He’s a physical, physical back. And Nick, if you give him a crease, has the chance to go 80 at any minute.

When we’re able to get the outside zone going like we were able to do today, it kind of opens everything else up and creates creases, but I’m happy. Nick was grinding it out and grinding it out and not having as much success, and then he breaks the big one. Kaytron is just a workhorse.”

Next up for the Lions

Penn State will face the winner of Notre Dame and Georgia, who play at 8:45 on New Year’s Day to conclude the quarterfinals of the College Football playoff. If Notre Dame wins, the Lions will be the home team as the higher seed in the Orange Bowl on Jan. 9. Penn State will have ten days to get rested and recover. There’s no word on the status of star pass rusher Abdul Carter, who left early in the second quarter with an upper-body injury and didn’t return.
