Thursday was the first time Franklin addressed the team’s summer additions in a public forum. He discussed his initial impression of Penn State transfer additions Kent State wide receiver Dante Cephas, Mississippi State cornerback Audavion Collins, and defensive lineman Alonzo Ford.
He also discussed the skills that presumed starting quarterback Drew Allar has and how his presence could change the offense if he became the starter.
“The defense usually will give you something. Most college defenses will give you the far flat because college offenses can’t take advantage of it. When we talk about arm strength, it allows you to threaten every part of the field and use the full 53 1/3.”

Franklin went on to describe the other strengths that Allar provides.
“The things that stand out is that it’s year two in the same system. He’s got a body type that’s going to allow him to either withstand some hits. But I also think he has the mobility, and the size helps him step out of an arm tackle or a sack,” Franklin said.
“But probably the thing that stands out to me the most is when he got in the Purdue game as a true freshman; he was just super poised. At the end of the day, it’s hard to teach that, and he just seems to have that.
He’s efficient with his movement in the pocket. Some guys move too much in the pocket and actually move into problems.”
Full day of interviews
Penn State made its full staff available on Thursday, with strength coach Chuck Losey, recruiting coordinator Andy Frank and nutrition specialist Josh Nelson speaking before Franklin. The entire coaching staff was available after the head coach’s press conference as well. Stay tuned to Blue White Illustrated for more reaction.
The team faces West Virginia on Sept 2 and starts fall camp at the end of the summer.
