The Penn State Nittany Lions football team is into its second week of spring practice, and head coach James Franklin opened up the proceedings to the media on Tuesday afternoon. Afterward, he spoke with the media about the team’s progress through four practices. Check out his complete comments in the video below or on the Blue White Illustrated YouTube Channel.

Franklin spoke for about ten minutes on Tuesday evening. If you want to be the first to get his comments, subscribe to our YouTube Channel and enable notifications. Franklin discusses the progress of the Penn State passing game

Of course, the main question that fans and media want answered is about the Penn State wide receivers. What’s happened in the team’s first week of practice? Franklin discussed the freshmen receivers when asked for an assessment of Matt Outten and Koby Howard.

Yeah, both of them are big, physical guys. I mean, Outten’s like 212, pounds already. You know, when we watched him in high school, he was a wide receiver, he was a Wildcat quarterback, he was a running back. You know, he kind of did it all,” he said. “But for that, for those very same reasons, he’s a little raw as a wide receiver, so it’s great that we got him in here early. He’s doing really well.”

“Koby, another guy more developed. He’s already 190-something pounds strong in the weight room, explosive; he’s been playing wide out pretty much his whole life. So, he’s a little bit more refined in those areas. But both have done a really nice job already for guys that should still be in high school.”

Blue White Game Update

Penn State also announced changes for the Blue-White game later this month. The gates on the stadium’s west side will be closed due to construction, as will the west side of the stands. Still, the team will host fans for the annual scrimmage on April 26th at 2 pm. The game will not be broadcast on television but will be on the radio with Steve Jones and Jack Ham on the call.

Franklin also mentioned earlier this year that it will be a shorter game than usual.

“One of the things that I don’t think we’ll do is a half time, because there’s been years where we’ll have 75,000 people out there, would go to half time for 20 minutes, and the parking lot becomes more attractive than the second half and the tailgating. So probably we’ll condense it down a little bit, maybe a little bit shorter quarters, maybe no half time, you know.”
