Penn State preparing for UCLA

Penn State concludes its four-game home stand with its second Big Ten game of the season on Saturday. The new conference opponent, UCLA, travels from Southern California to Happy Valley for a noon kick. Franklin discussed his team’s preparations for the upcoming game on Wednesday evening.

The team may not have its starting quarterback and UCLA does a diverse set of things on both sides of the ball. How do you prepare for all of that?

“I think it’s getting to a point as coaches and players to understand you’re not going to cover it all, but we’ve done enough throughout training camp and throughout this season that if they do this motion, or they line up in this formation, or whatever it is, we have rules that account for those things. And okay, we didn’t cover this this week. There’s a chance something’s going to show up in this game that we haven’t covered. You can’t cover it all. It’s just impossible to do. So just follow your rules,” Franklin said

According to Vegas, Penn State is once again an overwhelming favorite. Franklin’s team opened as a 28.5-point favorite this weekend in a contest where the Bruins may not have starting quarterback Ethan Garbers, thanks to an ankle injury he suffered last week in the loss to Oregon.
