Penn State head coach James Franklin wrapped up his media availability for this week on Wednesday in his weekly after-practice scrum. Hear his full comments in this video or on the Blue White Illustrated YouTube Channel. The Nittany Lions take on Ohio State on Saturday in Columbus for the right to stay undefeated. Franklin addressed his team’s preparation and health heading into the contest.

Penn State offense back to full strength?

The Penn State offense may once again be at full strength this weekend. Starting guard JB Nelson was back at practice on Wednesday evening and going through drills with his teammates. Franklin was intentionally ambiguous about Nelson’s availability on Tuesday and responded similarly on Wednesday evening.

The news puts Penn State back to full-strength on the offensive line. Even with the absence of Nelson, Franklin has been pleased with the play of redshirt freshman Vega Ioane.

“I think Vega is playing really well. I’m very pleased. We view Vega like we view [tackle Drew] Shelton. Those guys are starters. If you look at him he’s been playing starter’s reps or starting games anyway,” Franklin said on Tuesday.

On Wednesday Franklin was jokingly relieved to discuss the topic now that Nelson practiced in front of the media.

“Yeah, we’ll see. He’s missed a little bit of time. So obviously getting him back, kind of in the mix and greased up and ready to go. The good thing is Vega’s played well. So obviously, be able to evaluate that throughout the week. I think they’re both going to play. So, we’ll see how it plays out.”
