The Penn State Nittany Lions football team held its annual weight room event for the media on Thursday afternoon. Afterward, head strength coach Chuck Losey spoke with the media for roughly ten minutes to recap the last several weeks of work with the team after the end of the 2024 season. Hear his complete comments below, or on the Blue White Illustrated YouTube Channel.

Losey meets with the media

Unlike previous years, the team did not have its traditional max heavy squat day in front of the Penn State media this year. However, Losey spoke about the team’s work in a shortened window.

“I think we’ll pretty much steady out by the time we get back from spring break. It’s more pre spring break. Normally during this time of the year, I’ve got anywhere from six to seven weeks to really be aggressive with the guys before we get up to a test week. This year, I think we played in the second week of January. Gave the guys two weeks off because they needed it,” he said

“And when we came back from the break, normally, we would hit it pretty hard, but we took a little bit of different approach. We concentrated a little bit more on recovery regeneration for those first two weeks, really getting their bodies back, getting their legs back under them, and getting them primed up for what was going to be another four aggressive weeks, this being the fourth. So, just a little bit of difference in intensity.”

The team will be off for Penn State Spring Break starting Friday afternoon through next week.

Penn State working on a modified schedule

The team made a deep playoff run, falling one game short of the national championship last season, forcing the team to modify its offseason program. Normally, Penn State head coach James Franklin’s team would have a longer winter workout period, but the timeline didn’t work after the season.

“Obviously we’ve gotten back into the weight room,” Franklin said during his winter press conference in early February. “The players had about two weeks off after the season. Long season. So we had two weeks off. We’re getting back into workouts now. We’ll get ready to get started with winter workouts here pretty soon, which is our morning mat workouts. I think most of you guys know that we typically have anywhere between eight to 10. Again, based on the schedule, we’ll probably have six of those this year. We have to make modifications based on the calendar and how long we played into the season.”

Penn State begins spring practice on March 25. Franklin will speak with the media to kick off the 15-practice window, culminating with the Blue-White Game at the end of April. Be sure to tune in to the Blue White Illustrated YouTube Channel for those comments and more!
