Penn State news, notes, and updates for March 23 include a look at the hockey team’s NCAA opener, which is tonight, plus much more, including Amani Oruwariye’s new NFL home.

It’s time to dive into Friday’s top tweets and headlines about the Nittany Lions and college athletics.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with Penn State men’s hockey. Head coach Guy Gadowsky’s Nittany Lions open the Allentown regional of the NCAA Tournament opposite Michigan Tech. Puck drop is set for 5 p.m. ET on ESPNU. According to DraftKings, Penn State is a -140 favorite over the Huskies. It is the first-ever meeting between the two schools and third NCAA Tournament appearance for the Nittany Lions. It is the program’s first since 2018.

“I think we’re a better team than we were two weeks ago, and I credit that to their attitude,” Gadowsky said this week, according to The Daily Collegian. “They’re continuing on the same path that they started in August.”

Added junior goalie Liam Souliere:

“It’s pretty exciting to make the tournament. I’ve been here three years now and it’s the first time we get to go. It’s what we work for all year, and we’re finally here, so it’s just about us showing up and playing the best we can.”

In other news, a former Penn State football player has found a new home. Cornerback Amani Oruwariye will team up with Saquon Barkley in the NFC East with the New York Giants. He signed with the team on Thursday.

A fifth-round pick of the Detroit Lions in 2019, he spent his whole career there before moving on this offseason.
