The Penn State men’s hockey team will make history tonight when it steps onto the ice at the Frozen Four in St. Louis, Mo. A preview of the game headlines today’s newsstand.

Penn State tweets of the day

Head coach Guy Gadowsky’s Nittany Lions are two wins away from winning their first national title. Even if they don’t reach their ultimate goal, the team has already earned the program’s first trip to college hockey’s final four tournament. Penn State faces Hockey East foe Boston in the second of two games tonight at the Enterprise Center. The first features reigning national champion Denver opposite Western Michigan. That game starts at 5 p.m. ET. The Lions and Terriers meet at 8:30 p.m. Both games will air on ESPN2 and stream on the ESPN+ app. And, the winners will meet in the final on April 12 (7:30 p.m. ET)

“(Boston) is extremely dangerous from multiple places,” Gadowsky said this week, per The Daily Collegian. “We are going to play an extremely disciplined game to give ourselves a better chance.”

Penn State enters the tournament as “the hottest team in the country,” per ESPN, and its right: After an 0-8-1 start, the Lions went on to earn at least one point in 15 of 18 games between Jan. 3 and the end of the regular season. A trip to the Big Ten semifinals helped punch their ticket to the NCAA Tournament. Once there, the Lions won the Allentown regional by blowing out Maine before beating UCONN in overtime, 3-2, to punch their ticket to St. Louis.

FanDuel makes Penn State a +130 underdog for tonight’s contest.

Quote of the day

“I just try to be myself every day. Ty was definitely a big part of my development. He was here when I was a young kid. It’s helped me develop into my own character. So just going into this, I don’t really try to be someone I’m not. I’m just trying to be the best of who I am on the field.”
