Penn State is hosting a transfer portal specialist. Former Tulsa kicker Chase Meyer is in State College for a visit. The California native entered the mechanism players can use to find a new college home back on Dec. 1.

“After much thought and consideration I have decided to enter the transfer portal with 2 years of eligibility plus a redshirt year remaining,” Meyer wrote on Twitter. “I am forever grateful for the opportunities here at Tulsa. Big thank you to Coach Wilson and Coach Bolden for everything.”

Meyer is in search of his third college program. He started his career at Penn. There, he sent 36 kickoffs for 1,881 yards and one touchback while averaging 52.3 yards per attempt. At Tulsa in 2023, Meyer was 17 of 20 on field goal tries. His longest make was from 47 yards. Two of his misses came from between 40 and 49 yards. He also had 10 kickoff attempts. Meyer was a four-star in the Class of 2022 by Chris Sailer Kicking. Since going into the portal, San Diego State has offered and Meyer has visited Oklahoma. He has not yet reported an offer from the Lions.

Penn State will need a new starting placekicker in 2024. Alex Felkins, himself a transfer from Columbia, was terrific for the Lions this season after taking over the starting role in Week 2. However, his eligibility expires after the Peach Bowl. The Lions do return backup Sander Sahaydak, and also have walk-on freshman Ryan Barker, who has drawn praise this offseason, waiting in the wings.

The Lions have so far picked up one transfer portal commitment since the 2023 season ended. Division-II offensive tackle Alan Herron picked the program back on Monday.

Track Penn State transfer portal activity

The NCAA transfer portal database is private. But Blue-White Illustrated and the On3 Network have you covered from start to finish when it comes to tracking Penn State player movement.

Our well-established network of reporters and contacts across college athletics keeps you up to speed in several ways. We have articles written about players as they enter and exit the transfer portal or find their new destination, a dedicated transfer portal Twitter accountand the On3 Transfer Portal wire.

The transfer portal wire provides a real-time feed of player activity, including basic player profile information, transfer portal ranking, and original On3 Consensus recruiting ranking, as well as NIL valuation (name, image, and likeness).

While the transfer portal officially opens for business on Dec. 4 for undergraduate players, grad transfers can enter it at any time. This specific transfer portal window runs through Jan. 2, 2024. It is important to note that a player does not need to make his decision by the deadline. Undergrads do, however, have to declare their intent to enter the portal by then. When they pick their next school or decide to return to their current one after that is up to them. A second transfer portal window will run April 15-30.
