Penn State news and notes for Oct. 31 include the opening point spread for the Lions’ matchup with Indiana, plus new recruiting updates and more.

It’s time to dive into Monday’s top tweets and headlines about the Nittany Lions and college athletics.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with the opening odds for the Lions’ contest with the Hoosiers. Head coach James Franklin’s side opened as a 13-point favorite. The number is now 13.5 at some spots. It will likely be two touchdowns or more by kickoff. Tom Allen’s Indiana team is 3-5 and has lost five in a row. It is coming off its bye week. Penn State, of course, is fresh off a 44-31 setback against Ohio State.

“First of all, you have to give Ohio State credit,” James Franklin said. “They’re a really talented team. I thought we played our tail off. In the first half, we were able to overcome the turnovers and stay in the game and battle. But you can’t turn the ball over that many times against that type of opponent and think you’re going to be successful. That is something we, for the most part, we have done a good job of this year, but we did not today. I thought we played hard and did some really, really good things.

“There’s a ton of stuff to be proud of, but there’s just as much stuff that we have to correct tomorrow. There’s a lot of corrections that we obviously have to make. But, to me, the game starts and ends with the turnovers. You can’t give that type of team a short field that many times and be successful. It’s going to make it really challenging.”

Quote of the day

“To be honest, I was trying to go for five but it was just so difficult because I feel like there’s just so many great options out there. I could see myself being successful at so many places. But at this time where I’m at, quarterbacks tend to commit earlier.

“There’s obviously been a couple quarterbacks that are committed and that’s something I definitely want to do. I definitely want to commit, start building a relationship with the guys on the team, start growing my relationship with the coaches, start learning the offense, obviously build a class and start bringing guys to come with me.”
