It’s time to dive into Thursday’s top tweets and headlines about the Nittany Lions and college athletics.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with thoughts from Big Ten Network and FOX analyst Urban Meyer on this week’s meeting between Penn State and Iowa. The former Ohio State head coach called it a “monster game” on the Urban’s Take with Tim May podcast.

“I really like Penn State,” Meyer said. “Something happened last week. Penn State did not look very good. I went back and watched videotape. They’re so talented. This is the best Penn State talent team I’ve seen in 15 years.

“This is a monster game. It’s a White Out game. We’ve been to some of those White Out games, I think it’s the most difficult environment in college football. Those fans and the students do a great job there. So, this is a huge game.”

Meyer also called the Hawkeyes the favorites to win the Big Ten West.

“Penn State better be ready because Iowa finds a way,” Meyer said. “You know what’s gonna happen. In the fourth quarter, you’re gonna look up and the score is gonna be a four-point game.”

In other news, Penn Stae held open practice on Wednesday night. Head coach James Franklin isn’t concerned about potential wet conditions on Saturday. You can see practice highlights above and links to more coverage below.

“We’ve had rain in the forecast earlier this year,” Franklin said. “That’s why, whenever it rains, we take it as an opportunity ,as long as it’s not thunder and lightning, to practice in it. By doing that, I think your guys build confidence. It’s just kind of a part of the game and something we do. We practice in it. The only time we’ll come in is if it’s like a jog-through. I don’t want them just standing out there in the rain. But besides that, we’re outside.”

Quote of the day

“I wanted to go somewhere that had a strong emphasis on special teams. The people here, they’re awesome. I really value everyone being invested and looking after each other and looking out for each other. And that’s really what I found here. I think it’s one big unit and we operate as a family. That really stood out to me. And, I think it made it a no-brainer for me when I started talking with Penn State to come here.”
