Penn State Recruiting On Fire, Secures Top Ten Quarterback Troy Huhn

The latest domino among the top quarterbacks in the Class of 2026 has fallen, and Penn State has gotten its man for the next cycle.

The Nittany Lions hosted San Marcos (Calif.) Mission Hills quarterback Troy Huhn for a second time last week, and on Tuesday morning the four-star prospect committed to James Franklin, quarterbacks coach Danny O’Brien and Penn State.

“Coach O’Brien, our relationship is unbelievable. He’s definitely the man,” Huhn told BWI over the weekend. “He’s a great coach, he’s just now the quarterbacks coach so the only quarterback he’s really developed is Drew Allar. Drew Allar is such an amazing person. I was able to sit and eat dinner with him on Wednesday night. He’s a great person and great kid and man he can sling that ball. He’s going to be a first-round draft pick next year and they’re going to be a great team next year overall. Hopefully they can win a national championship.

“Coach O’Brien was great, but really my main thing when I was getting out there was to have more time with coach Franklin. They definitely gave that to me. I really felt the love from coach Franklin. He’s very business, he’s awesome, he’s a funny guy. My mom loves him, he loves my mom. That relationship with him is now a lot better and I’m glad I got to spend that time with him.”

Huhn is the No. 7 QB in the Class of 2026

The 6-foot-4, 201-pound prospect is the No. 7 quarterback in the Class of 2026 according to the On3 Industry Rankings. He’s the No. 81 prospect overall and the No. 12 player in California in the next cycle. Huhn is a four-star prospect by all four services and is rated by On3 as the No. 60 overall prospect, No. 6 quarterback and No. 6 player in California.

The Nittany Lions had Huhn as one of their top targets in a quarterback class that has already seen five of the top 10 players at the position in the Class of 2026 pick a school. Huhn said over the weekend that Auburn, Ohio State and Penn State were the three schools currently sticking out. Additional programs that extended an offer included Florida State, LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oregon, Texas and others.

“[Penn State] offered me really early in my process, too. That’s something to think about,” said Huhn. “Ohio State was later and Penn State was really early. I had that relationship with coach O’Brien. I mean, coach [Mike] Yurcich offered me back before he got fired, but coach O’Brien came out to see me multiple times. He’s said some great things and I believe him when he tells me that I’m one of the best quarterbacks in the country and that I have the best arm in the country. The whole coaching staff made me feel that way when I was out there.”

Penn State off to a great start in 2026

Huhn is the second player in the Class of 2026 to commit to the Nittany Lions. He joins Pennsylvania running back Messiah Mickens in the class. Mickens, who checks in at No. 65 overall in the On3 Industry rankings, committed to Penn State last August.
