Penn State lands corner target in the transfer portal: Video recap
Penn State football landed its first non-specialist in the transfer portal this week. The Nittany Lions had been hot after a cornerback and landed former North Carolina defensive back Storm Duck. Blue White Illustrated YouTube host and film analyst Thomas Frank Carr breaks down the signing with publisher and Penn State insider Sean Fitz in our video recap. Penn State has offered several defensive backs in the portal, but the Nittany Lions land the 6-1, 205-pound corner on Wednesday evening. Fitz describes what he knows of the situation and paints a positive picture for Nittany Lions fans about the acquisition of the graduate transfer player.
What is Penn State getting with Storm Duck?
So what is cornerbacks coach Terry Smith getting in Duck? Both Fitz and T-Frank agree that his size and strength make him a suitable replacement in the lineup for former Penn State cornerback Joey Porter Jr. But is he going to start right away for the Nittany Lions? Fitz gives his thoughts on the subject.
Meanwhile, T-Frank discusses what he’s seen from Duck in the limited opportunity to watch his film and then dives into the numbers that the redshirt junior corner posted while in Chapel Hill. Those numbers, however, do come with an asterisk, unfortunately. Fitz and T-Frank discuss what they know about Duck’s time at UNC and what he’s had to fight through off the field.
Finally, T-Frank asks Fitz if Penn State fans should be concerned about some of the metrics he’s pulled up on Duck. North Carolina’s defense struggled greatly last season, and Duck was part of those struggles. Fitz is undeterred by that and explains why.

Penn State adds coveted All-ACC cornerback via transfer
Penn State has made a splash in the transfer portal. Announcing his decision Wednesday afternoon, North Carolina transfer cornerback Storm Duck has committed to play for Penn State.
Duck has played four seasons at North Carolina, redshirting due to injury in 2020, and will have two years to play his final year of eligibility with the Nittany Lions. He was considered among the top defensive backs available in the portal according to On3’s Mike Huguenin. Duck is also ranked as the No. 11 overall transfer this cycle.
At UNC, he was listed as 6-feet-3/4-inch, weighing 200 pounds.
Storm Duck scouting report
Duck was a multi-year starter with the Tarheels, appearing in all 13 games as a true freshman out of Boiling Springs High School in South Carolina. In that 2019 debut, he had nine starts and had five passes broken up and two interceptions.
Duck followed the effort as a starter for the Tarheels in the 2020 season but was injured in the second game, missing the final 10 games of the campaign as a result.
