Penn State football landed a big addition to the recruiting class of 2023 with four-star defensive end Joseph Mupoyi. The St. Thomas More defender is ranked as the 40th player at his position this cycle and is the 389th player nationally in the On3 Consensus. Mupoyi is a long-time defensive end prospect for the Nittany Lions, who decided to take a chance on the high-ceiling project player with incredible physical skills but a very raw profile.
Penn State going for upside at defensive end
The Nittany Lions add Mupoyi to four-star defensive end Jameial Lyons, a standout player in 2022 for Roman Catholic high school in Philadelphia. The duo gives Penn State a pair of four-star edge prospects and, depending on where athlete Mathias Barnwell plays, the third high-ceiling player on the defensive line. The Nittany Lions have 14-four-star commits in the class according to the On3 consensus and rank 14th, but are second behind Ohio State in the Big Ten.
