Penn State news, notes, and updates for May 24 include the Lions’ latest spot in a top 25 plus a NIL nugget and more.

It’s time to dive into Wednesday’s top tweets and headlines about the Nittany and college athletics.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with a new post-spring top 25. This one comes from On3’s Jesse Simonton. The Lions check in at No. 7. It’s about where they average out across numerous media early preseason rankings, even though some have Penn State as high as No. 4.

James Franklin’s team enters the summer with as much hype as any program in the country. The Nittany Lions could have the best defense in the Big Ten, with all-conference talent at all three levels.  Former 5-star prospect Drew Allar is seen as a rising star in Happy Valley, and he’ll be aided by one of the best tailback duos in the country in sophomores Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen

“Penn State’s receiving core should be improved this fall with the continued development of a guy like KeAndre Lambert-Smith and the addition of transfer Dante Cephas. Can the Nittany Lions break through and return to the Big Ten Championship for the first time since 2016?”

They’ll have to beat Michigan and Ohio State to do so. The Wolverines check in at Nos. 2 and 3 in Simonton’s rankings, respectively.

In other news, Penn State Class of 2025 commit Jaelyne Matthews has inked a name, image, and likeness deal with a restaurant in New Jersey.

“Jaelyne Matthews is promoting Slice House in Tom’s River, N.J., through a new NIL partnership,” On3’s NIL deal tracker writes. “He can participate in NIL deals since he plays high school sports in New Jersey.”

Quote of the day

“I love all the coaches that I met. They showed me all the great things they have to offer. I liked how Coach [Phil Trautwein] goes over all the small details, which I was able to see [Monday]. I love how much they care about academics there, as well as winning football games. All the facilities and resources they have there are amazing and super helpful.”
