We start with recruiting. River Rouge, Mich., four-star Class of 2024 receiver Nick Marsh announced his top five on Thursday night. Penn State made the cut along with KansasMichigan StateOregon, and Pittsburgh. He was previously committed to the Spartans but opened up his recruitment in March to take other visits. The 6-foot-3, 198-pound senior-to-be is the No. 86 player in the Class of 2024 according to the On3 Industry Rankings and will take an official visit to PSU this weekend.

“I’m just looking into who else [these schools] are recruiting and the players and their skill set,” Marsh told Chad Simmons in late May. “I want be around and surrounded by great teammates and guys that can actually ball that are good academically, too. I didn’t want to be the only guy, I wanted to have other guys that could be called ‘the guy’ as well.

“Probably, I think I may have made that decision too early, so for me backing out of it was about just taking my time and really realizing what I want was a big part of my recruitment.”

In other news, the NCAA has passed new rules for the 2023-2024 college wrestling season. Takedowns will now be worth three points instead of two. A three-point near fall is also a new scoring rule. And, the first medical forfeit of a tournament will count as a loss unless a wrestler medically defaults out of the prior match.

Quote of the day

“As it stands today, I’m really happy with a guy like KJ Winston. I think KJ Winston, ever since we broke from the season, he’s been working at a high level. He seems like he’s training with a lot of intent. Not wasting any time. Not that any of our guys do, But, he just seems unbelievably intentional.”
