Penn State tweets of the day
We start in the NFL.
Former Penn State linebacker Jason Cabinda has signed an extension with the Detroit Lions. It will keep him with the NFC North franchise until at least 2023.
The New Jersey native has found a role as a fullback and special teamer at the next level. He had an impressive 2021 season.
“Cabinda appeared in 14 games (four starts) for Detroit in 2021, recording three rushes for 23 yards (7.7 avg.), four receptions for 16 yards (4.0 avg.) and a touchdown while adding seven special teams tackles (six solo),” a team news release says.
“He was also named the team’s nominee for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award for his outstanding community service activities off the field.”
Next, we move on to the portal.
Transferring TCU defensive end Ochaun Mathis has put Penn State in his top-five. The rest of the list includes Texas, Ole Miss, USC, and Nebraska.

Mathis was a two-time All-Big 12 selection with the Horned Frogs. In 2021, he had seven tackles for loss and tied for a team-high with four sacks. A Manor, Tex., native, Mathis also had five quarterback hurries.
It’s unclear when or if he’ll visit the final five schools of his choice. The same goes for a decision timeline.
Finally, for this section, we have details on the 2022 Penn State Blue-White game.

Quote of the day
“I think in terms of weighing the academics, both have a great degree in what I want. Obviously, you can make the argument that Stanford is on a different level and there is some truth to that, but Penn State is also an excellent school. Both give me the opportunity to go do engineering or pre-med. Both are going to allow me to do that and give me the kind of support I need to succeed.”
