Penn State lands top-20 wrestler Sam Herring to kick off its Class of 2026: Newsstand
Penn State news, notes, and updates for Nov. 18 include a new wrestling commitment, headlines of the day, and more. It’s time to dive into Monday’s top tweets and stories about the Nittany Lions and college athletics.
Penn State tweets of the day
We start with the first member of the Penn State wrestling program’s Class of 2026. Bishop McCort junior standout Sam Herring picked the Lions on Sunday. He has compiled a 39-12 record over his first two seasons at the standout Pennsylvania school. A three-time Super 32 place winner, Herring is No. 20 on MatScout’s Class of 2026 big board. He is No. 6 in InterMat’s 139-pound rankings, which puts him at No. 3 at that weight in the Keystone State. He projects as a middle weight at the next level, likely starting his time in State College at either 141 or 149 pounds.
Penn State will continue to pursue McCort standouts. It’s also targeting two of the nation’s best recruits there in Bo Bassett and Jax Forrest, who are, of course, teammates of Herring’s.

Quote of the day
“100 percent. Tyler doesn’t like being in the spotlight a lot, but he’s going to do whatever it is to put the team in the best position to win. That’s him blocking every play, he’ll do that. If that’s him throwing the ball, he’ll do that. If that’s him running the ball, he’ll do that. That’s him catching the ball in the pass game, he’ll do that. I don’t think you’ve seen a tight end have an overall impact on an offense like he’s had this year. I think it’s a really special year that he’s having and I would absolutely endorse Tyler Warren for Heisman in 2024.”
