We start with another postseason award watch list. Today, it’s freshman linebacker Abdul Carter who is in the spotlight. He is one of 14 semifinalists for the Shaun Alexander Freshmen of the Year award. The former four-star from Philadelphia has played in every Penn State game this fall and has racked up 35 tackles (4.5 for loss) and 2.5 sacks. His playing time has increased weekly as the lions look for creative ways to get him on the field.
“I think with all of [the linebackers], the real key now is, we always say greatness is being consistently good,” defensive coordinator Manny Diaz said in October. “Can you do it down after down? Can you do it every game? When you play a team like Michigan, they’re going to ask you that question down after down. Playing well on defense for three-quarters of the snaps is going to be a bad day on defense, and obviously, our linebackers will be tested on Saturday.

“Abdul really falls in that same boat. He certainly has made plays that have flashed and as a result, his role is increased. We’re trying to get him in more disruptive positions on the football field.”
In other news, Penn State has sent out new recruiting offers. On Thursday, the Lions joined the mix for 2027 New Jersey receiver Xavier Sabb and 2025 Georgia tight end Ethan Barbour. It then offered 2025 Florida running back Taevion Swint on Friday morning.

Quote of the day
“No matter what the weather is going to be like on Saturday, we’ll be prepared and ready for it. We’ll have three backs. We’re hoping it’ll be a game-time decision with Keyvone Lee, but we’re hoping he’ll be available. (Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen) will rotate pretty much the way they’ve been rotating for the last three games. And then obviously, depending on what happens with the game-time decision, Keyvone will factor in that as well.”
