Penn State football has had a few staff changes this offseason. The Lions’ latest one comes in the graduate assistant ranks.

Dwayne Scott has left the program. He is now at Pittsburgh in the same capacity he was at Penn State: Graduate assistant and assistant offensive line coach. A Bronx, N.Y., native, he played for current Lions offensive line coach Phil Trautwein at Boston College after starting his college career at Rhode Island. Scott came to State College ahead of the 2022 season by taking the spot of former Lions lineman Wendy Laurent, who left his GA role in State College to become the tight ends coach at Dartmouth.

Penn State already has Scott’s replacement. School alum Kevin Ceh, who played football and was a long snapper at Mars High School before attending college in State College, now lists Penn State Offensive Line Graduate Assistant in his Twitter bio.

The program’s other three graduate assistants return in 2023. David Parker is the assistant wide receivers coach, Bryce Jones works with the defensive backs, and Torrence Brown works with the defensive line.

Penn State returns all three of its coordinators in 2023. Mike Yurcich is in year three as the program’s offense coordinator. Manny Diaz will guide the defense for a second year. And, Stacy Collins enters year two as the special teams coordinator.

Multiple position coaches also return for another year in blue and white. Cornerbacks coach Terry Smith is the longest-tenured assistant. He enters year 10 in State College. Anthony Poindexter, the safeties coach and co-defensive coordinator, is back for his third season. Offensive line coach Phil Trautwein is here for the fourth consecutive season. Tight ends coach Ty Howle enters year two, while running backs coach Ja’Juan Seider is in year six.

Two of the 10-man on-field position coaching staff are in their first season in State College. Marques Hagans joined the staff this year in the receivers coach role after a long tenure at Virginia. Letterman Deion Barnes, then, moved out of a graduate assistant role and into the defensive line coach position this offseason.

Moving on to the support staff, Khalil Ahmad and DJ Bryant are new faces in the recruiting department. Program alum Calvin Lowry is a new analyst, as is Eric Sachse, who focuses on special teams. Penn State will likely add more bodies in both rooms before the fall.

Penn State opens the 2023 season against West Virginia. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. on NBC at Beaver Stadium.
