Penn State news, notes, and updates for Feb. 27 include the latest on the Nittany Lions’ recruiting efforts, one NFL Draft analyst’s opinion on former Lions heading to the NFL Combine, and much more.

It’s time to dive into Monday’s top tweets and headlines about PSU and college athletics.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with recruiting. Penn State made the top five for Ohio three-star running back Samuel Williams-Dixon. Kentucky, Ohio State, Rutgers, and Tennessee are his other finalists. A commitment timeline is not yet known. The 5-foot-11, 185-pound recruit last visited the Lions in October.

“Communication is very good with all five,” WIlliams-Dixon told Lettermen Row. “My position coaches care about me, the whole staff cares. You know, they all say I’m one of their dudes they want.”

In other news, head coach James Franklin’s program is one of four finalists for Philadelphia cornerback Kenny Woseley Jr. He narrowed his list to Penn State, MichiganNebraska, and Rutgers.

Elsewhere, former Lions safety Ji’Ayir Brown is starting to receive more and more hype ahead of the NFL Combine. In fact, one analyst will likely have him among his top 50 players regardless of position in the 2023 NFL Draft class after the annual scouting event. It’s this week in Indianapolis.

“I think he’s my top safety in the entire draft,” NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah said, per PennLive. “He’s got corner skills with history there. He played in the middle of the field. He’s got ball production. You can drop him down low if you want. He’s tough. He’s physical. You can see in the Auburn game what he does as a rusher with a sack and a forced fumble. He can cover tight ends. He can do everything.

“He’s a really good player. He’s one of my favorite guys to watch in this draft. And everything I’ve heard about him character-wise is off the charts. I’m a big fan of his.”

Quote of the day

“We left the door open too many times. Even when we weren’t scoring the basketball, we couldn’t come up with timely stops, they would get long offensive rebounds. They hit every timely basket that they needed to make and we missed a lot of them. But, it was because of the things that we did early in the game.”
